Jonny Moseley

When I started skiing I was three years old.  I started by skiing in between my parents legs; otherwise my mom or my dad would ski backwards while I was chasing them down the mountain.  I learned to ski on Mt. Rose and took classes at their ski school.  The first class you take is as a Turtle then you get to be a Squirrel.  The next level is the Fox and finally you get to be a Bear.  I skied there at Mount Rose and took all the different group level classes.  When I passed all of them, I started to ski with my parents all over the mountain.  Now I have outgrown Mt. Rose and we only go there when we ski with our friends who live in Reno.

My favorite place to ski now is Squaw; although, I also like going to Sugar Bowl and Alpine every once in a while.  I can ski all over Squaw, including double black diamonds.  My favorite ski lift is KT22 because it has some of the hardest runs down the mountain (it also sounds a lot like my name).  I also like to ski in the back area like Shirley Lake and Granite Chief.  Granite Chief would be a lot more fun if the lift were faster.  It is still one of the older ones and doesn’t even have a bar to keep you on the lift.  I’m the best skier in my family now and can beat my parents down the mountain.  If we lived closer to Tahoe I would go skiing all most every day and be on the ski team there.

When we went up to Squaw over Christmas I got a big surprise.  I was able to ski with Jonny Moseley who was the Olympic Gold Medalist in the 1998 Moguls competition in Nagano, Japan. He was at the top of the Funitel and was waiting for people to join him skiing around Squaw.  He took us to his favorite runs starting at Shirley Lake, then Solitude and then Chair Sixteen which is right by Broken Arrow.  Finally he took us to the run named after him off of the KT 22 lift – the Jonny Moseley Run.  It had a lot of moguls on it and was tough, but I made it down without a problem.  I had a great time and hope to see him again.
